Contract Ratified!

Contract Ratified!

The ballots have been counted, and we are thrilled to announce that our contract has been ratified with a 91% yes vote! Our siblings in Local 21 also voted yes by 91%. This victory is yours and is a testament to your dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to securing a better future for City of San Jose employees and our community.

This historic agreement was only made possible by the tremendous dedication of our membership. We didn’t just win a great contract; we strengthened our Union tenfold and are now ready to take on more challenges head-on and win. Your willingness to stand together, including your readiness to go on strike if necessary, demonstrated the strength of our solidarity and was enough to push the City administration to its true limits. This is the best agreement we've won in decades, and it's a result of your tireless efforts. Congratulations.

The wage increase and lump sum amount are set to begin in the pay period following council ratification on September 12th so that everyone will see these increases and your lump sum payments reflected in your early October paycheck. Once a new contract is assembled, we’ll provide hard copies to anyone who wishes and send out electronic copies to all. If you’re able, please plan to attend the City council meeting on September 12th as one final show of solidarity and ensure the council does its part and ratifies the agreement. You can RSVP to the event here.

As we celebrate this victory, remember that our work is far from over. Bargaining for our next contract begins in the fall of 2025 – a reminder that time flies, and we must stay vigilant. We also know we need more worker-friendly city council members on the city council. An election cycle begins again in just a few more months, so we’ll also call on people to help with our election efforts. Your continued involvement and active participation will be essential in shaping our future agreements.

Finally, we call upon those passionate about strengthening our union to step up as stewards and representatives. For those interested in seeing what it means to be a steward, we'll conduct new steward training in late October. The city will provide paid time for attendees to participate in this training. If you’re interested, please add your name to the list here.

Once again, thank you for your dedication, hard work, and commitment to making a difference. Together, we have achieved something remarkable, and we do not doubt that we will continue to build upon this success in the years to come.
