Celebrating Cindy Harlin's Retirement: A Champion of Union Values

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of our current MEF President, Cindy Harlin. Cindy has been an unwavering advocate for union values and workers' rights, and her retirement marks the end of a chapter filled with dedication and achievements.

Cindy's journey in the labor movement spans decades, including serving as a rank-and-file teamster before joining the City. Once with the City, Cindy's commitment to the labor movement continued, and she became an integral part of MEF, holding various key roles such as Steward, Chief Steward, and President, as well as various roles in Local 101.

In the ever-changing landscape of our union, Cindy stepped up during a transitionary time. As President, she ensured that fundamental union functions were not just maintained but improved upon. Member communication and engagement were placed at the forefront of her agenda, emphasizing the significance of a well-informed and united membership.

Cindy's leadership during her tenure as President has been nothing short of remarkable. In just two short years, she has left an indelible mark on MEF, guiding us with wisdom, determination, and the unwavering belief in the power of organized labor.

We are incredibly grateful for Cindy's leadership, especially during the Staff Up San Jose campaign, where she championed our fight for better contracts and led us to one of the most significant wins in decades. She embodies the spirit of "Si Se Puede," proving that when we unite, we can achieve great things.

As we bid farewell to Cindy Harlin, we welcome Nick Rovetto as our new President, who will carry forward the torch of progress and workers' rights. Cindy will be greatly missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire us to strive for a more equitable and just future.

Please join us in celebrating Cindy's retirement and her dedication to our union. We wish her all the best in her well-deserved retirement, and we will always be grateful for her tireless efforts and leadership.

In solidarity,

Your MEF Team
